"Park(ing) Day" Installation"Park(ing) Day" is a public arts project created by the San Francisco arts and design studio Rebar. It's a global event which happens every third Friday of September every year. The idea behind "Park(ing) Day" is to reclaim back public space by doing something creative in a parking space. The concept for my "Park(ing) Day"project consists of both performative and relational aesthetic qualities. Inspired by truism of the American artist Jenny Holzer, I've written my quote "Those Who Feel Alone Just Haven't Found Themselves" onto the space with chalk. Drawing parallels to the pavement buskers along the streets of Melbourne, I wanted to create an ephemeral image onto the parking space which will then fade away over time. Members of the public are invited to engage with my “Truism”. They can either respond on the back of blank card which will then be submitted anonymously into a box, or they may join me on the parking space and write their own chalk quote. The aim of this piece to is bring my thoughts and ideas in a public domain where people are free to reflect on ideas with me. I want to engage with the audience and collect a wide range of different perspectives and opinions on a topic which personally resonates with me, loneliness. |
